Dear doctors,

I hate to be a bother, but I've heard that it's possible again to get your chip out. I know you're probably all very busy, but I think you should consider me. Right now, I can't use it, but I was a healer at home. A White Mage, mostly.

So if you took it out, I'd be able to help you. And I want to help! Magic can't fix everything, but it's a good start. I could even work in your clinic, if you liked. A quick Cure spell cuts down on the bandage use!

I saw a cactoid today! I bet if we took it down, it might be edible.

I think I'm less surprised about hearing about people being killed-- murdered-- is that right?-- than I should be. We were always lucky to be below notice in Rabanstre, after the war. I think it's because maybe things were bad, but they didn't have time to get that bad.

Then again, it wasn't like we ever saw what happened to criminals, or people that the soldiers didn't like. They just got carted off to Nalbina. I was always so worried it was going to happen to Vaan.

And it did, by the way, so I was right.

It seems strange to me that in a place like this, that's just falling apart, people are having trials and investigations. Don't get me wrong. I think it's great. Just a little confusing. I guess that's the difference in being thrown in with people who are suddenly your equals versus being occupied.

[sigh]

I think I need some warmer clothes. This was never a problem before.

Every bad thing Kytes and Filo ever said about my cooking is true! I mean, normal stews and pies don't do that to you. Vaan always ate them and I knew he had a cast iron stomach but I didn't know it was that bad!!

If anyone is looking for me, I will be at the park, practicing my dancing. Better to try and stick with something less dangerous.

That wasn't so bad once we got that hang of it, was it? And look, my staff's back! I think it's probably time for me to start brushing up again on my fighting, if there's anyone willing to help me with it.

I'm back with the others at their place, and there's food! I took just a little bit, an apple to eat, and some to cook with. If you're hungry, or if you need to be patched up, you should stop by. I might not have Curaga anymore, but I spent most of my childhood patching up all my friends. And if you've ever had the privilege of meeting Vaan, you know that it's no small task. You should have seen him during his first growth spurt!

So anyway, food and first aid, if you need it.

I've climbed up out of the way, but I don't know what else to do! I don't even have my staff, not that I was going to single-handedly fend off the attacking hordes...

I'm slowly coming to understand a lot more about this place.

My biggest question right now, and I have a lot of big questions, is about this "chip" I keep hearing about. It's supposed to suppress my magic, right? And then I was reading and listening and if there's a murderer out there--

--well, I'm a Healer. If someone helped me get this chip out, I could do a lot of good for people. I have Cure spells and Esuna spells and Holy and Life.

If I'm going to live here, I want to be a help, like Basch is.

I'm still not sure if this thing is supposed to be a diary or something else. It's not like I have any secrets to worry about, so I can just speak my mind.

Then again, I'm not really sure about having a mind right now either. If it weren't for Basch, I'd be rat food on a strange world. So, thank you, Basch. And thank you, Johnny. I-- [the breathy voice of someone who knows how to beat back tears] --I signed on for adventure when I agreed to be a sky pirate, didn't I?

I guess I didn't realize it might be this kind of adventure. And... well, if every good sky pirate needs a partner, where's mine?

[crackling and static]
